Intel’s Lunar Lake "Core Ultra 7 258V" Outperforms AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme in Latest Benchmark Showdown

News Source: Wccftech

Intel's latest Lunar Lake "Core Ultra 7 258V" has surged ahead in performance, outshining AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU in the latest benchmarks.

The new mobile platform from Intel, part of the "Core Ultra" series, has impressed the tech community with its power efficiency and impressive results. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger recently highlighted that Lunar Lake aims to challenge ARM-based SoCs, and it seems AMD's Ryzen line is also feeling the pressure. According to benchmarks shared by GawroskiT on X (formerly Twitter), the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V surpassed AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme in the Ashes of the Singularity (AoTS) benchmarks.

A Closer Look at the Benchmark Battle

Despite differing configurations, Intel’s Lunar Lake SoC has edged out the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The Core Ultra 7 258V features a combination of four performance cores (P-cores, Lion Cove) and four efficient cores (E-cores, Skymont), while the Ryzen Z1 Extreme sports a more traditional 8-core/16-thread setup, typically found in handheld gaming consoles. According to Gawroński, Intel's Core Ultra 7 258V delivers performance gains ranging from 1.5 to 2 times faster than the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, a remarkable lead in this comparison

Performance Breakdown:

In standard workloads, the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V shows an average performance increase of 32%, peaking at 49% in normal batch processing. However, when faced with more intensive workloads, the gap between the two narrows.

It is important to note that the benchmarks were conducted under different conditions. Intel’s Lunar Lake SoC was tested with 32 GB of memory, while the Ryzen Z1 Extreme was limited to 12 GB. This discrepancy may have skewed the results slightly, but Intel’s gains remain significant, particularly in low-powered devices.

Looking Ahead:

AMD, however, is not standing still. The company is preparing its next-generation Z2 Extreme APUs, expected to launch in early 2025. The competition between Intel and AMD will continue to heat up as both companies push for dominance in the mobile and handheld computing space.

Intel’s Lunar Lake SoC, benchmarked in a laptop environment, showcases excellent power efficiency, especially considering its lower TDP, making it a strong contender in compact devices. As Intel continues its push into mobile and low-power segments, it’s clear the competition with AMD will be one to watch closely.
