AMD and Intel Budget 800-Series Motherboards Set to Launch Mid-January

AMD and Intel are gearing up to release their budget 800-series motherboards, with announcements expected at CES 2025. Both companies plan to reveal their latest chipset offerings on January 7, 2025, with Intel starting pre-orders a day before the official unveiling. The official retail launches are set for January 13 for Intel and January 15 for AMD.

AMD and Intel's New Offerings

The new motherboard lineups include AMD's B850 and B840 chipsets and Intel's B860 and H810 chipsets. These affordable options are aimed at consumers looking for budget-friendly alternatives to the high-end Z890 and X870/X870E models released earlier. The B850 and B840 have appeared in recent leaks, showing they are ready to compete in the market.

Specifics and Launch Strategy

Intel's B860 and H810 motherboards are expected to launch alongside their non-K and F Core Ultra 200 desktop processors, which are non-overclockable. Interestingly, Intel is reportedly allowing pre-orders for these boards one day before the official announcement, a strategy that could give them an edge over AMD. Additionally, offline dealers will receive the motherboards a week before online retailers, which could affect availability for early buyers.

ASUS is among the partners expected to release various models, with budget options starting at $200 and premium Strix series going up to $387. AMD's B850 will support CPU overclocking, while the B840 is an entry-level chipset replacing the previous-gen A620.

With the official announcements and launches just around the corner, consumers looking for budget-friendly motherboard options will soon have plenty to choose from. The competition between AMD and Intel in this segment is sure to bring exciting developments and choices for all types of PC builders.
