Apex Legends: Takeover Puts Community in the Spotlight
Respawn Entertainment has begun celebrating the 6th anniversary of Apex Legends, revealing extensive updates for the remainder of the year through a Dev Diary hosted by Game Director Steven Ferreira and Design Director Evan Nikolich. Players can expect significant changes in matchmaking, anti-cheat measures, competitive integrity, and, most notably, Creator Commissioners—a new system designed to incorporate fan-favorite community creators directly into the game.
Spotlight on the Community: Creator Commissioners
One of the foremost changes is the introduction of Creator Commissioners, enabling select content creators to bring custom challenges, Legendary weapon skins, and Apex Pack rewards to the battlefield. These curated activities aim to showcase the flair of community figures while rewarding everyone who participates—either solo or alongside fellow players. Respawn aims to use these commissions to make Apex Legends feel more inclusive, celebrating both new ideas and dedicated fans.
Competitive Shake-Ups: New Perks & Weapon Buffs
Apex Legends: Takeover will also change the meta significantly with key perk overhauls:
Assault Legends get brand-new perks such as Extra Firepower (increased ammo capacity), Armed and Dangerous (augmenting grenade usage), and improved handling for their favored weapons.
For the first time in the game’s history, every single weapon in Apex Legends is receiving a buff. Whether you prefer a reliable R-301 or a trusty Mastiff, you’ll likely notice heightened lethality across the board.
6th Anniversary Event: Legendary and Mythic Rewards
In recognition of six years of Apex Legends, Respawn is launching an anniversary event with 36 event items, each Legendary tier or higher. Players can earn Heirloom Shards and—debuting for the first time—a Mythic R-301. Inspired by Wraith, the Mythic R-301 features three unlockable appearance tiers and newly minted animations, including reloading sequences and enemy knock effects.
Arsenals and the New Way to Gear Up
Respawn is also rolling out Arsenals—strategically placed weapon stations loaded with every gun of a particular ammo type. These stations are visible from the air and, when planned effectively, give players more control over weapon selection and reduce the random nature of loot spawns.
Anti-Cheat & Competitive Integrity
Respawn’s anti-cheat changes and additional competitive measures are detailed in a separate post on the official Apex Legends site. Expect a continued focus on ensuring the game’s matchmaking environment remains fair, with a refined reporting system and deeper behind-the-scenes tools to discourage cheaters.
While many of these new features are previewed in the Dev Diary, fans can get an even closer look with the official Apex Legends: Takeover trailer dropping tomorrow. The update itself arrives February 11 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC—readying everyone for an event that blends high-octane action with community-driven creativity.
Which addition to Apex Legends: Takeover intrigues you the most—Creator Commissioners, the massive weapon buffs, or the new Arsenals? Share your thoughts on what you’ll try first when the update lands on February 11!
