ASUS Officially Launches $1400 ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme — AM5 Flagship With 24 Power Phases, DDR5-8200, Vapor-Chamber SSD Cooling & More

ASUS has officially taken the wraps off its ultra-premium AMD AM5 motherboard, the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme, at a dedicated ROG event in China. Aimed at hardcore enthusiasts and overclockers, this flagship E-ATX board pulls no punches—both in specs and price—with a staggering 9999 RMB (~$1400 USD) MSRP.

Built for Power Users: 24 Phases & Extreme Memory Support

At its core, the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme features a 24-phase (20+2+2) 110A VRM design, powered by dual 8-pin EPS connectors, ensuring rock-solid power delivery for even the most demanding Ryzen 8000 series CPUs. Cooling this beast is a set of massive heatsinks with integrated heat pipes, making it ready for serious overclocking out of the box.

Memory support is equally cutting-edge, with four DDR5 DIMM slots that can handle up to 256GB at speeds of 8200+ MT/s, along with ASUS’s signature ROG Q-DIMM.2 expansion slot for dual M.2 SSDs via an add-in card.

High-Speed Storage & Expansion

Storage is another strong point—users get five total M.2 slots (3 physical + 2 via Q-DIMM.2), including a top-mounted M.2 slot with 3D vapor chamber cooling for Gen5 SSDs. Each slot is covered with large heatsinks and thermal pads, while the primary slot features an EZ-release mechanism for easier upgrades.

For GPUs and add-in cards, there are two full-size PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, providing flexibility for multi-GPU setups or high-speed accelerators.

Display, I/O, and Connectivity That Go Above and Beyond

The aesthetics are unmistakably ROG—an all-black theme with silver accents, topped off by a large 5-inch customizable LCD display integrated into the rear I/O shroud. Onboard controls include everything from DEBUG LEDs and FlexKey buttons to overclocking switches, angled connectors, and multiple onboard USB headers (20G, 10G, 5G).

Rear I/O is packed with options, including:

  • 4x USB Type-C ports (2x 10Gbps, 2x 40Gbps Thunderbolt)

  • Multiple USB Type-A ports

  • HDMI

  • 10GbE and 5GbE LAN

  • Wi-Fi 7 support

  • 7.1-channel HD audio jacks

  • BIOS Flashback & Clear CMOS buttons

A full-length backplate adds to both thermal performance and structural rigidity.

Release Date & Price

The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme is expected to launch in retail markets by the end of April 2025, priced at 9999 RMB in China, which converts to approximately $1400 USD.
