Baldur’s Gate 3 Custom Campaign ‘The Grand Theater – Sell Your Lute to the Devil’ Gets First Playable Version
Modding for Baldur’s Gate 3 has kicked into high gear following Larian Studios’ official modding tools release in September 2024. One of the first major custom campaigns to emerge is The Grand Theater – Sell Your Lute to the Devil by modder Moezilla—an adventure set on the outskirts of Baldur’s Gate and steeped in dark intrigue.
The Grand Theater’s Dark Invitation
In this campaign, travelers encounter an opulent yet eerie venue run by none other than the Red Wizards of Thay, who weave elaborate shows and manipulate unsuspecting performers. The choice is yours: Will you pursue fame at the risk of losing your soul, or unravel the theater’s hidden agenda? Expect to find a heavy emphasis on the moral costs of success—and how easily ambition can blind a performer to lurking dangers.
Early-Stage Content
According to the Nexus Mods page, version 1.0 of The Grand Theater includes:
Two thousand+ lines of new dialogue (text-only, no voiceover or lip sync).
Six new quests, with just one complete at this stage.
No combat yet, though the modder plans to incorporate battles in version 1.1.
Moezilla also warns that some NPC appearances hinge on whether you’ve met them in Baldur’s Gate 3’s main campaign, so it’s recommended that players have already completed the base story.
More Custom Campaigns on the Horizon
Beyond The Grand Theater, the modding community is working on other expansive campaigns:
Path to Menzoberranzan by Lotrich, who recently showcased progress in a video.
Forsaken, a world-of-warcraft-inspired scenario set in Tirisfal Glades’ Undead starting zone, currently in early development with only the starting area playable.
These custom creations highlight the vast potential of Larian’s modding toolkit and signal that even more innovative Baldur’s Gate 3 fan projects are coming.
