Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country Set for Big Reveals at The Game Awards 2024
Gearbox and Hangar 13 are poised to dominate headlines during The Game Awards 2024, with major reveals for Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country confirmed for the event.
Borderlands 4: Bigger, Bolder, and a New World
Randy Pitchford’s recent tease has been followed by an official confirmation from the Borderlands franchise page on X: Borderlands 4 will debut its reveal trailer during Geoff Keighley’s annual event.
Billed as the "most ambitious" entry in the series, Borderlands 4 has fans eager for details. Set on an entirely new planet, the game is scheduled for a 2025 release. While little is known about its story or gameplay innovations, concept art shown at PAX West earlier this year hinted at an exciting new direction.
The Mafia Returns: Exploring the Roots
Another highlight will be Mafia: The Old Country, a prequel from Hangar 13 that explores the origins of the Mafia in the fictional Sicilian city of San Celeste. Announced at Gamescom 2024, the game is expected to offer a rich narrative steeped in intrigue and tradition.
The Stakes Are High
For Gearbox, Borderlands 4 is a chance to regain momentum after the franchise’s live-action adaptation flopped at the box office, despite a star-studded cast. Yet, with Borderlands 3 surpassing 18 million units sold, there’s no doubt Take-Two is betting big on the next installment.
Hangar 13 is equally under pressure to deliver with Mafia: The Old Country, as fans are eager to see a return to the series’ roots in storytelling and atmosphere.
🎮 The Game Awards 2024 promises to be an unmissable event for gamers, airing live on December 12 at 4:30 PM PT.
