Caves of Qud Officially Leaves Early Access After 15 Years
After a remarkable 15 years in development, Caves of Qud has finally left Early Access, marking its 1.0 launch. The announcement was made today during the PC Gaming Show, and the beloved roguelike is now available for purchase on Steam, Itch.io, and GOG.
A Sci-Fi Roguelike Like No Other
Described as a "science fantasy roguelike epic" and "deep simulation," Caves of Qud is known for its sprawling procedurally generated worlds, teeming with dangerous biomes such as ruins, settlements, and hostile jungles. The game offers unparalleled freedom, letting players argue with NPCs or face off against some of the most bizarre enemies in the genre.
The long-awaited 1.0 update introduces several exciting features:
Tutorial System: A much-needed guide for newcomers and returning players to grasp the complex mechanics.
Final Quest: A new endgame quest that concludes the main storyline.
Fresh Content: New items, music, and 40 achievements for completionists.
Dromade Deluxe Edition: Includes an enhanced soundtrack and the Pets of Harvest Dawn DLC, unlocking in-game companions from the start.
Legacy Saves and Future Content
However, there’s one bittersweet note: save files from earlier versions are not compatible with the full release. To continue playing older saves, players can switch to the legacy branch via Steam’s Betas menu.
Despite reaching its 1.0 milestone, Freehold Games confirmed they will continue supporting Caves of Qud, teasing additional content in the future.
The game is priced at $30, but a 15% launch discount is available until December 12, making this the perfect time to dive into its richly layered world.
