Cyberpunk 2077 Outperforms Steam Deck on Nintendo Switch 2, New Gameplay Footage Confirms

Cyberpunk 2077 is proving to be one of the most technically impressive ports for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, as new gameplay footage highlights that the title not only performs better but also looks significantly sharper than its handheld PC counterpart, the Steam Deck. In a newly published video by content creator Deck Wizard on YouTube, the footage showcases CD Projekt Red’s open-world RPG running on Nintendo’s next-gen hardware in Performance Mode, targeting a 40 frames per second experience. Despite minor frame rate dips that are likely to be addressed in the final version, the game delivers strong image fidelity and stability, affirming the Switch 2’s capability to handle demanding AAA titles at a high visual standard.

The clip, also, offers a detailed glimpse into the handheld performance of the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which includes the base game and the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion. This physical release will be shipped on a 64GB cartridge that contains the entirety of both the game and the expansion, requiring no additional downloads—a noteworthy accomplishment for a title of this scale.

Set to launch globally on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition benefits from exclusive optimization that pushes the hardware beyond expectations. While other versions of the game remain available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the Phantom Liberty expansion is only supported on PC and current-generation consoles. The Switch 2 version, however, positions itself as a highly viable alternative in the handheld gaming space, particularly against the Steam Deck, whose performance now appears comparatively inferior based on early impressions.

This development underscores not only the growing sophistication of handheld gaming systems but also Nintendo’s strategic push to bridge the gap between console-grade experiences and portable formats. The strong showing of Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 may signal a broader shift in how AAA developers approach hybrid consoles in the future.
