Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition Will Not Require Extra Download on Nintendo Switch 2; Runs at 40 FPS Docked in Performance Mode

CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available without requiring any additional download, a welcome surprise for fans seeking a complete on-cartridge experience. The title, which includes the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, is set to launch globally alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, priced at $69.99 / €69.99.

64GB Cartridge Includes Everything

Jan Rosner, Vice President of Business at CD Projekt Red, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the game will ship on a 64 GB cartridge, containing both Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty DLC in their entirety—meaning no internet connection or post-install downloads will be necessary to get started.

This move bucks the trend of partial game installs and large digital patches that have plagued many physical game releases in recent years, especially on Nintendo platforms. It also underlines CDPR’s commitment to delivering a premium physical product experience for Switch users.

Performance Mode Capped at 40 FPS in Docked Mode

Despite the promise of upgraded visuals and next-gen optimization on Nintendo Switch 2, the performance ceiling may come as a slight disappointment. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed after a hands-on session that Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition runs at 40 FPS in Performance Mode while docked.

While it's not the ideal 60 FPS many had hoped for, it's also not surprising given the demanding nature of Cyberpunk 2077, even on other platforms. Still, the Switch 2’s hardware allows the game to run smoothly with graphical improvements and respectable fidelity, which is an impressive feat on a handheld-capable console.

At the time of writing, full gameplay footage from the Nintendo Switch 2 version has yet to be made public, but more information is expected as we approach launch. Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition launches on June 5th on Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide. The game is also available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One.

What do you think about Cyberpunk 2077 running at 40 FPS on Switch 2? Are you planning to grab the full edition on cartridge, or stick with other platforms? Let us know your take in the comments!
