Dragon Age: The Veilguard Game Director Corinne Busche Departs BioWare for New RPG Opportunity

In a significant shift for BioWare, Corinne Busche, game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has confirmed her departure from the studio and parent company EA. Speaking to Eurogamer, Busche shared that she has moved on to an enticing new opportunity to build a fresh RPG, describing it as an offer she simply couldn’t refuse.

Reflecting on her time with BioWare, Busche expressed pride in her role during the tumultuous development of The Veilguard, which endured a decade-long development cycle and multiple reboots. Despite the challenges, she steered the project to completion, delivering a critically acclaimed single-player RPG.

“At the heart of it, this was about my own fulfillment,” Busche explained to Eurogamer. “I did what I set out to do at BioWare. That is to come in and help right the ship. I love Dragon Age and BioWare, so the chance to return the game to a proper quality single-player RPG was the privilege of a lifetime.”

Busche highlighted the demanding nature of the work, noting the toll it took but also expressing optimism about BioWare’s cultural progress and future direction.

Released last October, Dragon Age: The Veilguard received strong critical reception for its storytelling and return to the series’ roots. However, while sales were reportedly solid, they may not have exceeded internal expectations. Despite this, Busche’s departure is unrelated to the game’s commercial performance.

A New Chapter for Busche

Busche hinted at her next move, saying she is venturing into the CRPG (computer role-playing game) space with a project that promises "great characters" and aligns with her passions for immersive, character-driven narratives. While details remain scarce, her extensive experience with The Sims, Dragon Age, and other EA projects positions her as a key figure in the RPG genre’s evolution.

The Future of BioWare

BioWare now shifts focus to the next installment of the Mass Effect franchise, helmed by a veteran-led team. According to insider sources, BioWare’s broader operations remain stable despite rumors of internal disruptions.
