Dying Light: The Beast Confirmed for This Summer as Franchise Celebrates 10th Anniversary with New Roadmap

Techland is pulling out all the stops to mark the tenth anniversary of the Dying Light franchise. The Polish developer has shared a slew of updates and statistics, highlighted by the long-awaited reveal of Dying Light: The Beast, due out this summer. Below, we break down all the major announcements, from brand-new events and modes to exciting content expansions coming to both Dying Light and Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

A Decade of Undead Mayhem

First off, Techland revealed some impressive milestones racked up by players across the Dying Light series:

  • Over 45 million users have played either Dying Light (2015) or Dying Light 2 (2022)—that’s up from 30 million two years ago.

  • More than 67 billion zombies have been taken down.

  • Players have spent over 1 billion hours in total playtime, collectively.

To celebrate a decade’s worth of zombie-slaying adventures, both games are slated to receive multiple in-game events over the coming weeks.

In-Game Events and Discounts

Techland plans to roll out a series of themed events and promotions, giving veteran fans and newcomers plenty of reasons to revisit Dying Light and Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

  1. Week 1

    • Dying Light (2015): HyperMode returns, paired with a double XP bonus for an extra boost to progression.

    • Dying Light 2 Stay Human (2022): The biggest discount to date (up to 67% off, depending on platform and region).

  2. Weeks 2 & 3

    • Dying Light: Low Gravity, Super-Crane, and Viral Rush events cycle in, refreshing the beloved parkour-meets-zombies gameplay.

    • Dying Light 2: New bounties available through the Pilgrim Outpost website. Completing these online tasks rewards players with unique gear.

  3. Week 4

    • Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Introduces the Tower Raid cooperative roguelike mode as a permanent addition. After multiple test phases, this challenging new mode tasks groups of survivors with ascending a tower filled with powerful foes, traps, and randomized encounters.

Updates to the Original Dying Light

Despite launching in 2015, the first Dying Light is getting some love:

  • Visual Overhaul: A new patch will improve graphics and presentation quality.

  • Remastered Soundtrack: Composer Paweł Błaszczak has contributed new tracks, refreshing the game’s audio experience.

  • Free Content: Techland is not done supporting the original title, ensuring longtime fans have more reasons to jump back in.

Expanded Roadmap for Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is only midway through the five-year post-launch plan that Techland promised. For 2025, expect:

  • Co-Op and Matchmaking Improvements: Better connectivity, matchmaking filters, and overall stability.

  • Additional Tower Raid Playable Characters: More variety for the new roguelike mode.

  • Community Maps Support: Enhanced tools for user-generated content, giving creators the power to design custom maps and missions.

  • New Firearms & Melee Weapon Classes: Expand your arsenal against the infected hordes.

  • Prologue Improvements: Polished onboarding experience for newcomers.

  • Graphical & Technical Upgrades: Expect new visual settings and performance tweaks.

  • Free Gear & Outfits: Regular cosmetic drops to dress up your survivor.

Dying Light: The Beast Arriving Summer 2025

Perhaps the biggest bombshell is the revelation that Dying Light: The Beast is set to launch next summer. Notably, it promises the return of Kyle Crane, protagonist of the original game. While Techland hasn’t yet provided detailed gameplay or story elements, the confirmation alone is sure to excite longtime fans who have wondered about Crane’s fate since The Following expansion.

Beyond The Beast, Techland teased additional, unannounced Dying Light projects currently in the pipeline. The studio also hinted at collaborations that include:

  • Board Games: A tabletop experience set within the Dying Light universe.

  • Exclusive Merchandise: New apparel and collectible items on the way for fans to show off their zombie-slaying devotion.

  • An Original Webcomic Series: Further fleshing out the lore and characters of Dying Light.

With tens of millions of players and a thriving community eager for fresh content, Techland’s push across both Dying Light entries underscores how the franchise plans to evolve well into its second decade. From in-game events and expansions to deeper storyline teases, fans have plenty to look forward to over the next year.
