Eight of October’s Best-Selling Games Were New Releases, with Black Ops 6 Leading the Pack
October 2024 was a blockbuster month for gaming, as eight of the top ten best-selling titles were fresh releases, highlighted by massive franchise launches like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The month showcased not only stellar sales figures but also significant milestones across multiple platforms.
Dominating the Charts: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Topping both retail and digital sales, Black Ops 6 had a record-breaking debut, becoming the best-selling entry in the Call of Duty franchise to date. Although Activision and Treyarch haven't disclosed specific figures, Circana reported that the game accounted for 70 unique promotions, far surpassing any other title. This overwhelming marketing presence was felt across major retailers and online platforms like GameStop, Amazon, Target, and Walmart, securing Black Ops 6 its spot at the pinnacle.
Silent Hill 2 Surprises Fans
Konami and Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake exceeded expectations, climbing to seventh place on Circana’s October charts despite its limited platform availability (PlayStation and PC). Silent Hill loyalists, initially skeptical due to Bloober Team's history, were thrilled by the game's exceptional quality. It also garnered 37 unique promotions and dominated preorder rankings on PlayStation. The game's nomination for multiple awards further cements its success.
Other Top Performers
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero landed in the ninth spot, a testament to the enduring popularity of the Dragon Ball franchise.
Sonic x Shadow Generations took seventh place in promotions and brought SEGA strong sales alongside Metaphor: ReFantazio, which earned critical acclaim and award nominations.
While League of Legends held its crown as the most-watched Twitch game (thanks to the Worlds semifinals drawing a peak of 1.64 million concurrent viewers), the debuting titles like Silent Hill 2 and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero cracked the platform's top ten, signaling robust interest.
The strong October lineup contrasts with a quieter November, which saw fewer major launches. Looking ahead, it's clear that Black Ops 6 and Silent Hill 2 have set a high bar for holiday season performance and awards season recognition.
