Fallout 3 Remaster Still Years Away According to Insider, While Oblivion Remaster Nears Release
While anticipation continues to build around the recently confirmed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster, it appears Fallout 3 fans will have to remain patient. According to a new statement by well-known and reliable industry insider NateTheHate, the rumored Fallout 3 Remaster—first revealed in the same FTC investigational documents that confirmed the Oblivion remaster—is not expected to surface anytime soon.
Responding to a user inquiry on X, NateTheHate clarified that it will be "a while" before any official details emerge regarding Fallout 3 Remastered. He did not offer further information, but the implication aligns with internal Microsoft timelines from 2023 suggesting a release window still at least two years out.
This timeline places a stark contrast between the Fallout 3 remaster and the upcoming Oblivion remaster, which is reportedly just days away from release. Recent leaks have confirmed that Virtuos—long rumored to be behind the project—is indeed developing the Oblivion remaster, and a series of early screenshots surfaced online via the studio’s official website, offering the first glimpse at the visual enhancements. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the remaster is expected to arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S within the next week.
While it remains unclear whether the Oblivion remaster will also feature gameplay improvements or solely focus on visual fidelity, fans won’t have to wait long to find out. Later this year, the community will also be treated to Skyblivion, the long-awaited fan-made port of Oblivion into Skyrim’s engine. Interestingly, the Skyblivion team lead recently commented on the official remaster, further fueling community interest in how the two projects will compare.
As Bethesda continues to expand the reach of its most iconic RPGs through both official and community-led projects, it's evident that nostalgia and remastered classics remain a major part of Microsoft’s strategy moving forward—particularly with the upcoming Fallout TV series and The Elder Scrolls VI still on the distant horizon.
