Firaxis Reveals the Civilization VII Roadmap for 2025
With Civilization VII’s official release just days away, Firaxis is building excitement by unveiling an extensive roadmap for the remainder of 2025. Players who own the Deluxe or Founders Edition will get early access starting February 6, allowing them to explore new features and civilizations ahead of everyone else. Meanwhile, the rest of the community will jump into the full release soon after, discovering a range of free content updates spanning from March through at least September of this year.
March: Ada Lovelace, Carthage & Great Britain, Plus Major Events
March opens with significant, free content additions aimed at refreshing the Civilization VII experience:
New Leaders & Civilizations: The famous mathematician Ada Lovelace becomes a leader, while Carthage and Great Britain enter the fray as fresh civilizations.
Natural Wonders: Four new wonders appear around the map, enhancing exploration. Firaxis also teases more wonders like Mount Everest and the Bermuda Triangle.
Events & Challenges: Updates add the Natural Wonder Battle event, Marvelous Mountains, and additional wonders. Simon Bolivar is introduced as another leader, with Bulgaria and Nepal arriving as new playable civs.
All March content comes at no cost, letting Firaxis “shake up” the game before launching paid DLC expansions further down the line.
April–September: The “Right to Rule” Collection
Once the March wave settles, Firaxis plans another array of updates releasing periodically between April and September, dubbed Right to Rule. This collection promises:
Two New Leaders
Four More Civilizations
Four New World Wonders
Additional Events & Challenges
Firaxis confirms that, during this period, players will also see free updates containing events, challenges, and ongoing quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes, ensuring that the overall experience continues to evolve for all fans.
Beyond: October 2025 and Further
While no specifics were shared about the October 2025 updates, Firaxis indicated that they’ll share more details in due time—very likely unveiling the scope of paid DLC expansions akin to Civilization VI’s Rise & Fall and Gathering Storm. Historically, these expansions come at a premium, but frequent discounts often make them more affordable over time.
