Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Announced as a Mobile-Exclusive Action Adventure RPG

During The Game Awards 2024, Netmarble unveiled their latest Game of Thrones adaptation, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, an action-adventure RPG set in the sprawling world of Westeros. The trailer showcased iconic locations, recognizable characters, and interactions seemingly pulled straight from George R.R. Martin's epic saga and the award-winning HBO series. However, fans hoping for a high-budget, triple-A experience on consoles or PC may feel disappointed—this game is exclusive to mobile platforms, available for Android and iOS devices.

A Journey Through Westeros, But On Your Phone

In Kingsroad, players step into the shoes of a newly minted heir to House Tyre, a small but noble house from the North. This original storyline introduces a fully customizable main character, offering visual tweaks and class options, including Sellsword, Knight, and Assassin. While the game promises epic encounters with beloved characters from the series, the experience is built for mobile hardware, which is reflected in the visuals and gameplay design.

Though mobile gaming has significantly advanced in recent years, the visual fidelity of Kingsroad doesn't quite match the standard of recent console and PC titles, as pointed out by fans watching the trailer on high-resolution displays.

Netmarble’s Vision for Westeros on Mobile

Netmarble, no stranger to adapting Game of Thrones for mobile gaming, expressed their enthusiasm for bringing a new perspective to the franchise. Young-sig Kwon, CEO of Netmarble, said:

“We believe Game of Thrones is a world rich with untold stories and adventures, and we’re pleased to bring Westeros to life in an exciting new way for gamers.”

Their previous titles—an MMORPG and a turn-based RPG—received mixed reviews, but Kingsroad aims to provide a fresh and immersive experience for fans seeking to delve into Martin’s lore-rich universe on the go.

The reveal has sparked debate among fans, with some excited for the chance to explore Westeros in a new adventure, while others lament the decision to make it a mobile-exclusive. Despite its limitations, Kingsroad could serve as an accessible entry point for casual gamers and mobile enthusiasts to step into the world of dragons, betrayal, and epic battles.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad currently has no official release date, but it can be pre-registered on Android and iOS.
