Gears of War E-Day Has Been in Active Development for Over Five Years

A new entry in the Gears of War franchise, tentatively titled Gears of War E-Day, may not be far from release, given the length of its development cycle. According to VGT Gaming News, the game’s Senior Level Designer recently revealed on LinkedIn that the project has been in active development for five years and two months, suggesting a significant portion of its production is already complete.

Last year, Gears of War E-Day was officially announced during Microsoft’s summer showcase, but details have remained scarce. Shortly after the reveal, a job listing hinted that the title could eventually arrive on PlayStation 5, which is not entirely surprising given recent statements by Xbox executives—most notably Phil Spencer—about the potential for more Xbox first-party titles to appear on rival consoles, saying there are “no red lines” preventing cross-platform releases.

Platforms & Release Window

For now, Microsoft has confirmed that Gears of War E-Day is in the works for PC and Xbox Series X|S. A concrete release date has yet to be revealed, nor has any potential PlayStation release been officially confirmed by the publisher. However, the prolonged development timeline may indicate that fans of the long-running shooter series could see more news—and possibly the final product—sooner rather than later.
