Light of Motiram Debuts New Gameplay Trailer, Showcasing Survival Mechanics, Base‑Building, and “Mechanimal” Companions

Polaris Quest—Tencent’s internal development studio—has released a substantial gameplay trailer for Light of Motiram, its forthcoming open‑world survival title often compared visually with Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series. While the art direction invites immediate parallels—lush biomes, towering robot fauna, a bow‑wielding protagonist—Polaris Quest stresses that Light of Motiram pivots toward survival and base defense, rather than pure action‑adventure.

Survival‑first design with physics‑driven construction

Players must gather resources, erect fortified bases, and defend them against roaming threats. The building system relies on a realistic physics engine, meaning structural integrity and weight distribution influence how walls, ramps, and watchtowers survive siege conditions. Crafting advanced defenses—including automated turrets powered by harvested energy cores—forms a crucial loop alongside exploration and combat.

Taming over one hundred “Mechanimals”

Central to progression is the ability to tame and command more than 100 distinct Mechanimals, each with upgradeable skills and growth paths. Once subdued, these cyber‑beasts can assume combat stances (tank, support, recon) or can be reassigned to production duties within the player’s settlement, boosting resource yields or powering defensive arrays. Mechanimal synergy enables complex strategies when repelling large‑scale incursions.

Melee‑centric combat and seamless co‑op

Combat emphasizes close‑quarters techniques—dodge rolls, parries, counterattacks—supplemented by ranged tools and elemental traps. Importantly, drop‑in, drop‑out cooperative multiplayer spans the entire campaign, allowing friends to join base raids, trade mechanimal blueprints, or tackle boss‑tier threats together. That full‑game co‑op is a notable differentiator from Horizon, whose single‑player focus remains intact until Guerrilla’s separate Horizon Online project arrives.

Release plans and PC requirements

Light of Motiram will launch in 2025 as a free‑to‑play title on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. A console performance breakdown is due later this year, but minimum and recommended PC specifications are already available:
