Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Expands to the High Seas with War Sails DLC
TaleWorlds Entertainment has unveiled a new expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2025. The War Sails expansion, set for release on June 17, will introduce naval warfare to the beloved medieval sandbox game, offering players the opportunity to command fleets, engage in naval battles, and explore new Viking-inspired territories.
A New Era of Warfare on Land and Sea
The War Sails expansion brings a Northern Kingdom populated by the Nords, featuring rugged fjords and hostile waters. Players will be able to trade, recruit, and battle across this new land, navigating 18 different ships, each with unique handling influenced by wind and water physics. Ships can be upgraded with siege engines, rams, and improved sails, offering new tactical opportunities on the battlefield.
Naval combat in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord will involve boarding and ramming enemy vessels, crippling their ability to maneuver by damaging oars, hulls, and sails. The addition of naval warfare will also have a strategic impact on land battles, with the ability to blockade ports and disrupt enemy supply lines. However, players must be wary—storms and attrition will pose natural challenges that can devastate even the most well-planned campaigns.
Expanding the Bannerlord Experience
The War Sails expansion isn't just about naval warfare. The DLC also introduces new companions, Viking-themed banners, armor, tattoos, and weapons, including unique axes, swords, and spears that fit the Nordic aesthetic.
Alongside the DLC launch, a free update (Patch v1.3) will bring additional features, such as:
Stealth and disguise mechanics for dungeons and hideouts
Random events that tie into character traits
Parley system to negotiate with enemies
New combat improvements and weapon types
Enhancements for modders
With War Sails, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord takes a bold step into uncharted waters, promising an exciting new layer of depth to its already immersive medieval world.
