MSI Releases Intel PR5 BIOS with Microcode 0x114 and ME Firmware 1854 v2.2 for Z890 Motherboards
MSI has rolled out the Intel PR5 BIOS update featuring Microcode 0x114 and ME Firmware 19.0.0.1854 v2.2 for select Z890 chipset motherboards. This update aims to improve stability and optimize gaming performance for Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors, although early reports suggest limited impact on performance.
What’s New in the PR5 BIOS Update?
The latest PR5 BIOS includes the following key features:
Microcode 0x114: Previously included in PR4 but now refined for enhanced system stability.
ME Firmware 1854 v2.2: Updated Management Engine firmware for better optimizations.
Currently, only two MSI Z890 motherboards have received this update:
MEG Z890 ACE
MPG Z890 Carbon Wi-Fi
Other Z890 models, including the flagship MEG Z890 GODLIKE, have yet to receive the PR5 BIOS update. The new BIOS version is labeled 7E22v1A41, released on December 27, and is 9.98 MB in size.
Performance Expectations
While the update is intended to optimize gaming performance for Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 CPUs, early reports suggest minimal to no noticeable improvements in gaming benchmarks. Previous iterations of Microcode 0x114 in PR4 were similarly underwhelming in delivering performance gains.
There are indications that Intel may release newer firmware in January, possibly improving upon the current optimizations. However, expectations for significant gaming performance uplifts remain low, based on user feedback.
Should You Update? If you own an MSI MEG Z890 ACE or MPG Z890 Carbon Wi-Fi motherboard, applying the PR5 BIOS update may improve system stability. However, if you’re looking for a substantial boost in gaming performance, it’s advisable to manage your expectations or wait for further updates from Intel.
