New Alan Wake 2 Patch Brings PS5 Pro Enhancements, Adds New Balanced Mode

Remedy Entertainment has released a new update (version 1.2.7) for their critically acclaimed survival horror title, Alan Wake 2. The patch primarily focuses on improving PlayStation 5 Pro support and addressing some minor issues across all platforms.

When the PS5 Pro launched in November, Alan Wake 2 struggled to take full advantage of the console’s capabilities. Digital Foundry pointed out that the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) wasn’t delivering ideal results due to a low internal rendering resolution. Remedy later acknowledged the issue and promised improvements.

Fast forward to today, and the latest patch delivers on that promise with new options and enhancements specifically for PS5 Pro users:

  • Balanced Mode: A brand-new graphics mode requiring displays capable of a 120Hz refresh rate. This mode blends Quality mode settings (including ray tracing) with Performance mode’s resolution, targeting a steady 40fps.

  • Performance Mode Adjustments: Slight tweaks to visual settings to ensure a more consistent framerate.

  • Ray Tracing Enhancements: Both Quality and Balanced modes now feature adjusted ray tracing settings for improved image clarity with reduced noise.

  • PSSR Toggle: Players can now choose to turn PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution On or Off, giving more control over their visual experience.

The patch isn’t exclusive to PlayStation 5 Pro, as PC and Xbox Series X|S users also benefit from minor fixes and optimizations:

  • Fixed manuscript collectibles displaying incorrect pages in Saga’s Mind Place during The Lake House mission.

  • Restored missing audio for the “Welcome to the Lake House” video collectible.

  • General performance optimizations and small bug fixes.

Alan Wake 2 first launched on October 27, 2023, to widespread acclaim, solidifying its status as one of Remedy Entertainment’s standout titles. With these updates, PS5 Pro players can now enjoy a much smoother and visually refined experience.

Are you excited about the improved PS5 Pro performance in Alan Wake 2? Which graphics mode will you try first: Quality, Performance, or the new Balanced Mode? Let us know your thoughts below!
