Nintendo Sues Streamer for Pirated Games

Nintendo has ramped up its legal efforts this week, filing a lawsuit against Jesse Keighin (known as EveryGameGuru), a streamer accused of showcasing “unreleased and pirated” Nintendo Switch games on multiple public forums. According to a report from TorrentFreak, Nintendo alleges that Keighin has repeatedly streamed copyrighted content across platforms like YouTube, Discord, Twitch, and TikTok, violating DMCA notices and continuing to display unauthorized gameplay.

Nintendo claims Keighin used pirated copies of several unreleased games, including Mario & Luigi Brothership, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Super Mario RPG. Not only did he stream these titles, but Nintendo alleges he provided links to pirated copies for viewers, promoting further copyright infringement. This lawsuit seeks up to $150,000 in statutory damages from Keighin, highlighting Nintendo's firm stance on protecting its intellectual property.

But Nintendo’s legal action doesn’t stop with individual streamers. The company has also filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, the developers behind the popular monster-collection game Palworld. According to Pocketpair, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company claim that Palworld infringes on multiple patents and are now seeking five million yen ($32,846) in damages.

The timing of this lawsuit has sparked discussion within the gaming community, especially as Palworld has been available for some time. Some speculate that the recent popularity of Palworld and its similarities to Pokémon may have prompted Nintendo to take legal action now.

Nintendo’s commitment to protecting its copyrights and trademarks remains clear as they continue to monitor and pursue cases where they “believe” infringement has occurred...
