NVIDIA Responds to Bricked RTX 5090/5090D GPUs, Says It Is “Investigating” the Reported Issues

A wave of user complaints alleging that their GeForce RTX 5090 or RTX 5090D graphics cards have been bricked following driver updates has led NVIDIA to officially acknowledge the situation. While the company has not yet provided a detailed explanation, a spokesperson told PC Gamer that, “We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.” This marks NVIDIA’s first direct response to mounting community concerns.

Overview of the Problem

  • Driver-Related Black Screens: Many users report that immediately after installing the newest NVIDIA driver, the GPU fails to send any signal to the monitor, resulting in a persistent black screen.

  • Rollback Ineffective: Attempts to revert to a previous driver version often do not fix the issue; in certain cases, the card will no longer be recognized by the operating system or BIOS, making it extremely difficult to remedy.

  • Possible Architectural/Driver Incompatibility: Early speculation within enthusiast forums suggests the bricking may stem from a deeper hardware-software conflict, rather than defective hardware. However, no authoritative fix or workaround has emerged.

So far, NVIDIA’s only statement is that it is actively looking into the matter. Various users have tried resets, BIOS reflash, and driver rollbacks, with inconsistent or no success in resolving the black screen bug. Until NVIDIA provides a clear analysis or patches the driver, the safe option for many RTX 5090/5090D owners is to either stay on a stable driver version (if already working) or pause driver updates.

Given the unknowns—ranging from potential firmware fixes to complete driver overhauls—no timeline exists for when owners might see an official solution. Until NVIDIA publishes further details, speculation about architectural flaws or a hidden software glitch continues to swirl. For the moment, affected customers have little recourse except to contact NVIDIA or seek an RMA from the GPU’s vendor if the card becomes fully unresponsive.

Have you or someone you know experienced black screens or unrecognized GPUs after updating drivers on an RTX 5090/5090D? Let us know the troubleshooting steps you’ve taken and whether you think the issue is primarily driver-related or points to deeper hardware concerns.
