Onimusha: Way of the Sword Announced for PC and Consoles, Arriving in 2026

Capcom has officially revived the Onimusha series with the announcement of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Revealed during The Game Awards 2024, this long-awaited new entry promises to bring fans back to the haunting, samurai-driven battles that made the series iconic while introducing fresh gameplay mechanics to enhance the experience.

Set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, Way of the Sword plunges players into a once-vibrant city now overtaken by the demonic Genma. The debut trailer showcases intense, blood-soaked sword fights featuring a lone samurai wielding the legendary Oni Gauntlet, a staple of the Onimusha franchise. The atmospheric visuals and gripping combat aim to capture the eerie essence of the original titles while innovating to appeal to modern audiences.

Capcom’s Bold Revival

This marks the first full-fledged entry in the Onimusha series since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006. While the remastered Onimusha: Warlords from 2019 garnered a lukewarm reception, Capcom is clearly betting big on this new installment. The press release highlights how Way of the Sword will take the series in a fresh direction while retaining the spirit that longtime fans cherish.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S in 2026. For now, fans can enjoy the debut trailer, which teases the dark, action-packed journey awaiting players.
