Steam, Path of Exile 2, and Marvel Rivals Shatter Records Over the Weekend

Valve’s Steam platform had another record-breaking weekend, peaking at 39.2 million concurrent users on Sunday at 14:00 UTC. Over 12 million users were actively gaming, setting a remarkable milestone for the platform. Steam's user base has been growing rapidly throughout the year, with major gaming events fueling these record-breaking moments.

This weekend, the spotlight was on Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile 2 and NetEase's Marvel Rivals, both of which contributed significantly to Steam’s numbers.

Path of Exile 2: A Stellar Early Access Launch

Path of Exile 2 entered its paid Early Access phase on Friday and quickly soared to a peak of 578K concurrent players on Steam. With over 1 million users across all platforms, the sequel to the acclaimed action RPG has surpassed expectations.

Reviews on Steam have been largely positive, holding at 82% favorable. The influx of players even forced Grinding Gear Games to implement temporary server queues to manage the overwhelming demand.

Marvel Rivals: A Free-to-Play Powerhouse

Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals also achieved impressive numbers. The team-based PvP superhero shooter broke its own records, peaking at 480K concurrent players on Steam. But the real success lies in its 10 million players registered within the first three days across Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.

The free-to-play nature of Marvel Rivals undoubtedly boosted its adoption rate, allowing players worldwide to jump into the action without any upfront cost.

This weekend’s records highlight how blockbuster releases can drive massive engagement on Steam and beyond. With Path of Exile 2’s promising start and Marvel Rivals’ explosive launch, the gaming world shows no signs of slowing down.
