Tekken 8 Hits 3 Million Sales Milestone in Just One Year, Outpacing Tekken 7
Bandai Namco has announced that Tekken 8 has reached an impressive milestone by selling 3 million copies within a year of its release. This achievement comes faster than the sales trajectory of Tekken 7, which reached 12 million copies globally 10 years after its launch. Notably, Tekken 8 recorded a strong start by selling 2 million units within its first month on sale, followed by an additional 1 million units over the subsequent 12 months.
During a recent special Tekken Talk Live event featuring industry veterans Katsuhiro Harada, Michael Murray, Kohei "Nakatsu" Ikeda, and Jun Yasuda, Bandai Namco expressed optimism about the franchise's future. "We hope that everyone will stick with us, as we have a lot of cool stuff planned to keep the franchise going," the company stated.
In addition to this significant sales milestone, Tekken 8 continues to evolve with major updates. One of the most exciting additions is the return of Jun Kazama as a playable fighter—a character who previously made cameo appearances in Tekken 3, 4, and 6 and featured in spin-offs like Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken Revolution. Further expanding the roster, Bandai Namco announced that Anna Williams will join the Tekken 8 lineup as part of the Character Year 2 Pass. Anna will be available on March 31 for pass owners and on April 3 for everyone else.
Looking ahead to the second year of Tekken 8, slated for summer 2025, fans can expect major updates including the release of a new stage and character, with additional content planned for fall and winter 2025.
