UNIS Unveils World’s Fastest Gen5 SSDs With Up to 14,900 MB/s Speeds, Surpassing Market Leaders
UNIS Flash Memory, a subsidiary of Chinese tech giant UNISplendour Corporation Limited, has announced the launch of its latest PCIe Gen5 SSDs—the S5 and S5 Ultra—positioning them as the fastest consumer-grade storage solutions currently available. The announcement, reported by MyDrivers, highlights the growing strength of Chinese semiconductor and memory firms in the global performance hardware arena.
The S5 and S5 Ultra SSDs leverage the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface and adopt the M.2 2280 form factor, offering blazing-fast sequential read and write speeds that rival and, in some cases, exceed those of current industry leaders like the Crucial T705. The S5 is particularly noteworthy, delivering up to 14,900 MB/s read and 12,900 MB/s write speeds—surpassing the 14,500 MB/s read and 12,700 MB/s write of the T705, making it the fastest SSD on paper to date.
Despite being a DRAM-less drive, the S5 achieves its record-breaking performance using Host Memory Buffer (HMB) and a robust SLC caching mechanism. It incorporates 3D TLC NAND flash memory and is cooled via a 1mm graphene heat spreader, though additional cooling may be required for sustained performance under heavy loads.
The S5 Ultra builds on the S5’s architecture but integrates a more advanced 6nm main control chip, providing optimized performance for professional workloads. This variant delivers 14,200 MB/s read and 13,400 MB/s write speeds, paired with impressive endurance ratings of 1200TBW (for 2TB) and 2400TBW (for 4TB), making it ideal for data-heavy applications.
In terms of storage configurations, the S5 will be offered in 1TB and 2TB capacities, while the S5 Ultra will feature 2TB and 4TB models. Both models are targeted at enthusiasts and professionals demanding top-tier performance.
Although pricing and global availability remain undisclosed, the launch of these ultra-fast SSDs by UNIS is a strong indication of China’s growing ambition in the high-performance storage market. The drives set a new benchmark for PCIe Gen5 SSDs and may soon challenge the dominance of Western storage leaders—provided they can back up performance claims in independent benchmarks.
