Valve’s Deckard VR Headset Rumored to Launch in Late 2025 at $1200
According to Valve-focused insider and content creator Gabe Follower, Valve’s new standalone, wireless VR headset—codenamed Deckard—is rumored to launch before the end of 2025. Gabe Follower shared the details on X, noting that the full bundle is expected to be priced at $1200.
The headset is designed to deliver a premium VR experience without cutting any costs, even if it means selling at a loss initially. Valve plans to include several “in-house” games or demos as part of the bundle. Deckard is expected to run on an adapted version of SteamOS—the same operating system found on the Steam Deck—enhanced for virtual reality. One of its standout features will be the ability to play flat-screen games, already available on Steam Deck, on a large virtual screen without the need for a PC.
This isn’t Valve’s first foray into VR hardware; the company launched the Valve Index in June 2019 at $999 (or €1079 in Europe), which was bundled with Half-Life: Alyx, an award-winning VR title. Although the Index set new standards for VR, its niche market performance led Valve to continue exploring untethered solutions. Valve founder Gabe Newell has previously acknowledged the company’s commitment to developing wireless VR headsets, and the rumored Deckard appears poised to deliver on that promise.
While the $1200 price point is comparable to the Index when adjusted for inflation, it signals that Valve is once again targeting the high-end segment rather than aiming for a broader market, a strategy that contrasts with Meta’s recent efforts with the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
What do you think about Valve’s renewed push into high-end VR with the Deckard headset? Will it redefine the premium VR experience or struggle to gain broader market appeal? Share your thoughts in the comments below and join the discussion!
