AMD Confirms Over 200,000 Radeon RX 9070 Series GPUs Sold in First Weeks

AMD recently held its AI PC Innovation Summit in Beijing, where company executives, including CEO Lisa Su, Senior VP Spencer Pan, and SVP & GM of AMD China, Jack Hyunh, presented the latest product updates and addressed current market trends. One of the key highlights from the event was AMD’s impressive initial shipment numbers for its newly launched Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs based on the RDNA 4 architecture.

Over 200K Units Shipped in Record Time

During the presentation, AMD revealed it has successfully shipped and sold over 200,000 units of the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs shortly after their launch on March 6, 2025. While the exact timeframe wasn't explicitly stated, this impressive milestone likely represents sales from the initial launch week or the first batch delivered to retailers.

This rapid adoption highlights strong consumer interest in AMD’s latest GPUs, driven by their exceptional performance-to-value ratio, enhanced gaming capabilities, and substantial generational improvements.

Availability Challenges and Pricing Concerns

Despite initial success, the Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs quickly went out of stock globally, indicating higher-than-anticipated demand. AMD executives acknowledged these availability challenges, promising improvements in supply stability within the coming weeks. However, availability isn't the only concern—several reports indicate that AMD’s Add-In-Board (AIB) partners have notably increased prices above the announced MSRP.

For example, Acer recently launched its Nitro RX 9070 XT OC edition priced at $829, significantly higher than the official MSRP of $649. Additionally, ASUS has also adjusted prices upward, causing some custom RX 9070 models to be priced up to 1.5 times above MSRP. AMD has expressed its intention to encourage partners to adhere to MSRP but clarified it does not directly control third-party pricing strategies.

AMD vs. NVIDIA Shipments

AMD’s substantial early shipment figures come as NVIDIA also claimed significant growth with its RTX 50 series GPUs, stating shipment volumes doubled in the first five weeks compared to its RTX 40 series. However, NVIDIA provided no specific numbers, making direct comparisons difficult. Nonetheless, it’s clear that competition between the two GPU giants remains intense, particularly as both companies struggle to meet heightened consumer demand while navigating complex market conditions.

Commitment to Future Improvements

AMD assured attendees at the summit that the company remains dedicated to continuously enhancing GPU performance and supply chain efficiencies, further promising more competitive products in the near future. This commitment aligns with AMD’s broader strategic focus on AI-driven computing, gaming innovation, and overall consumer satisfaction.
