Hasbro Teases Upcoming Announcements for Baldur’s Gate Franchise Following Baldur’s Gate 3 Success
Fans of the critically acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 might soon receive exciting news about the future of the franchise. According to Hasbro’s Senior Vice President of Digital Games, Dan Ayoub, new announcements about Baldur’s Gate are coming in "pretty short order." Ayoub’s comments came during a recent conversation with IGN at GDC 2025, where he provided an insightful glimpse into how Hasbro plans to proceed with the renowned fantasy RPG series.
Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3 developed by Larian Studios—and their decision not to create a direct sequel—fans have naturally been curious about what the future might hold. Ayoub addressed these questions, stating clearly that the company is actively exploring ways to move forward and will soon share more concrete plans:
"A lot of people are very interested in Baldur's Gate. We're kind of working out our plans for the future and what we're going to be doing with that. And actually, in pretty short order, we're going to have some stuff to talk about around that."
Ayoub further explained that Hasbro is not rushing into decisions, preferring instead to approach the next chapter of Baldur’s Gate strategically and deliberately. He emphasized the importance of carefully building upon the immense popularity and high standards set by Baldur’s Gate 3:
"It's somewhat of an unenviable position. I mean, we're not in a hurry. Right? That's the thing, we're going to take a very measured approach... We've got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We're starting to think about, okay, yeah, we're ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we're going to have some other things to talk about around that."
While it remains unclear if the forthcoming announcement will involve a direct sequel, Ayoub’s comments suggest other possibilities, such as spin-offs or expansions, may be explored. Whatever the direction, Hasbro intends to maintain the excitement and high-quality standards that Baldur’s Gate 3 delivered.
When asked specifically about the challenge of following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Ayoub recognized the significant expectations from fans and industry peers but confidently embraced the challenge:
"I'm never one to shy down from a challenge. I think anything that forces us to raise our creative bar—and developers love to have a high bar to go after, and I think we've actually seen the team push some really interesting ideas that they're like, 'Okay, we need to raise our bar. We need to go bigger on this.' And things like that. So, I think that's our hope, right? We would keep raising the bar and everyone just tries to go a little higher."
These statements clearly highlight Hasbro’s commitment to not only continuing the legacy of the Baldur’s Gate series but also to enhancing and expanding it in innovative ways. Although fans eagerly await specifics, Ayoub’s reassurance of news coming soon provides optimism and excitement for the franchise's future.
