Back 4 Blood 2 Rumored to Be in Development at Turtle Rock Studios

Fans of Back 4 Blood may have a reason to rejoice as Turtle Rock Studios is reportedly working on a sequel. The rumor comes from MP1st, which discovered a project titled "Gobi 2" in actor Jesse Hutch’s resume. Hutch previously performed motion capture for JD Fenix in Gears of War 4, and the codename "Gobi" was used for the first Back 4 Blood game—named after the studio’s beloved pet bearded dragon.

Hints of a Sequel

Adding more fuel to the speculation, a website for Back 4 Blood 2 was registered last year. Turtle Rock officially announced in February 2023 that it would shift focus from supporting the first game, making a sequel a logical next step. Although post-launch support for the original only lasted a little over a year, the game reportedly met the sales targets set by publisher Warner Bros. Games, increasing the likelihood of a follow-up.

A Legacy of Undead Action

Released on October 12, 2021, Back 4 Blood served as a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, earning an 8/10 from critics at Wccftech. While praised for its map design, replayability, and unique card system, it was noted that the game’s focus on teamwork left little appeal for solo players.

As rumors swirl about the sequel, fans are already speculating about potential improvements, such as enhanced solo modes, expanded co-op features, and new gameplay mechanics. Turtle Rock Studios has yet to confirm any details, but excitement is building among the community.
