Baldur’s Gate 3 Receives Its Final Major Content Update with Patch 8, Now Live Across All Platforms

Larian Studios has officially released Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3, marking the final major content update for the critically acclaimed RPG. Now available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, macOS, and PC, this significant milestone signals the conclusion of Larian's expansive development journey that began in 2016 with early design concepts and story development, followed by a 2020 early access launch and culminating in the game's full release in 2023.

In a heartfelt post on the official site, Larian Studios stated, “We've told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging.” This sentiment encapsulates the studio’s seven-year journey developing Baldur’s Gate 3 into what is now widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs of the modern era.

Patch 8 includes a robust list of additions and improvements, notably the long-awaited cross-play support. Players across PC and console platforms can now join each other in co-op play, even when using mods—provided the same versions of compatible mods are installed across all devices. Alongside this technical enhancement, Larian introduces a powerful Photo Mode, empowering players to capture their adventures in-game with full creative control.

To assist users, the studio has published a Photo Mode tutorial and a separate mod setup and cross-play guide.

Also featured in Patch 8 are 12 new subclasses, allowing deeper customization and strategic diversity for players eager to revisit the game’s rich narrative with fresh builds. These join earlier additions such as the Magic Mirror character appearance changer, Honour Mode, enhanced evil-run cinematics, and official modding tools. With Patch 8, the game’s feature set is now considered complete, and future updates will focus solely on bug fixes and stability enhancements.

Larian concludes its blog post with a forward-looking statement, hinting at new creative ventures beyond Baldur’s Gate 3. “We’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.”

Have you tried Patch 8’s new features or tested out cross-play yet? What subclass will you dive into first? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
