Black Desert Console Native PS5 and Xbox Series Versions Arriving June 26; PS4 and Xbox One Support Ending

Pearl Abyss officially announced that native versions of Black Desert for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X will launch on June 26, 2025. However, as part of this major update, the company has also confirmed that support for older consoles—PlayStation 4 and Xbox One—will be discontinued following this transition.

In a recent announcement shared via YouTube, Black Desert Console General Manager explained the details behind this significant shift:

"Black Desert console was first introduced in 2019 with Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and this month marked the fifth anniversary of crossplay. Previously, we've mentioned preparations for a native-gen port aiming for a first-half 2025 release. We're happy to confirm platform certification for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles is progressing as planned. Provided there are no unexpected delays, these versions will launch on June 26."

The upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series platforms will come at no additional cost. Pearl Abyss assures current players that all account data, entitlements, and progress will be seamlessly transferred to the new console versions. However, gameplay on previous-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) will cease upon the release of this update.

The studio emphasized that the decision was driven by hardware limitations on older consoles, making it increasingly challenging to implement new content effectively. Pearl Abyss stated:

"Despite continuous optimization efforts, hardware constraints on PS4 and Xbox One have reached a point where providing the latest content smoothly is increasingly difficult. We sincerely apologize and kindly request your understanding, as this decision supports the long-term growth and improvement of Black Desert Console."

Pearl Abyss expects notable performance enhancements and better gameplay environments on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, promising ongoing improvements, though some enhancements may become more evident over time. Future content updates are also planned, with more details coming soon.
