Blades of Fire Is a New Action/Adventure from MercurySteam, Out on May 22
MercurySteam has officially unveiled Blades of Fire, a new single-player action/adventure game that promises to deliver an experience reminiscent of Sony Santa Monica’s God of War titles. Set in a richly imagined fantasy world, players take on the role of Aran de Lira—the firstborn of the King's Ward—whose journey begins as he confronts a kingdom where the newly crowned Queen Nerea has cast a spell turning steel to stone, empowering her army of abominations with a divine metal against which other blades shatter.
In Blades of Fire, players will embark on a quest to recover forging scrolls, hone blacksmithing skills, and craft customized weapons that can be tailored to suit various fighting styles. The game features seven distinct weapon families and over thirty unique Forge Scrolls, ensuring a myriad of combinations. Weapon attributes such as weight, length, durability, penetration, and edge quality can be influenced by the chosen weapon family and the materials used during the forging process. Strategic weapon selection is crucial, as players must choose the right tool to counter the enemy’s armor, with a combat system that allows targeting specific enemy body parts.
Accompanying Aran on his perilous journey is his loyal companion, Adso, who speaks the ancient language of the Forgers. Adso not only offers crucial tips by analyzing enemy weaknesses but also records his observations in his chronicles, adding depth to the narrative. Throughout the game, players will encounter over fifty unique enemy types—including the Queen's guards, various creatures, and the undead—each with their own distinct attack styles and armor, ensuring that every encounter is both challenging and dynamic.
505 Games, the publisher of Blades of Fire, expressed their enthusiasm for the project. Neil Ralley, President of 505 Games, stated, “MercurySteam’s pedigree for creating unique and beloved games is just one of the many reasons we’re thrilled to partner with them on Blades of Fire. Their gaming system that transforms weapon customization into an outstanding combat experience is astounding, as is their commitment to telling the best story possible. We can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Blades of Fire is scheduled to launch on May 22, 2025, for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. The game will be priced at $59.99, with a 10% pre-order discount available. Pre-order customers will also receive two in-game armors for Aran and additional forging materials.
