Canadian rapper Drake Accuses Apple and UMG of Manipulating Siri, Alleges Feud Escalation Over Kendrick Lamar Track

Canadian rapper Drake has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), Apple, and Spotify, alleging a conspiracy to misdirect Siri users into playing Kendrick Lamar’s track Not Like Us instead of his own album Certified Lover Boy. The accusation deepens Drake’s longstanding feud with Lamar and points to potential manipulation of Apple’s voice assistant for malicious intent.

The Allegations

Drake claims that UMG orchestrated payments to Apple, resulting in Siri directing users to Not Like Us, a track that contains defamatory lyrics targeting him. His legal filing in Manhattan accuses UMG of:

  • Bot manipulation to inflate Not Like Us’s popularity artificially.

  • Deliberate misdirection by Siri when users requested his music.

  • Retaliatory behavior, including staff dismissals, against those supporting him.

Drake's attorneys argue that Siri's errors were intentional, stating:

"UMG conspired with and paid currently unknown parties to use bots to deceive consumers into believing Not Like Us was more popular than it was."

While Drake’s legal team frames this as a deliberate act, many speculate that the incident could be attributed to Siri’s known inaccuracies. The voice assistant has a history of misinterpreting commands, which could explain the confusion.

Interestingly, this lawsuit arrives amidst news of Apple’s plans to enhance Siri with features like personal context understanding in future iOS updates (expected in iOS 18.3 and 18.4). Could this controversy accelerate Siri’s improvements?

Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar dates back to the early 2010s, but this legal battle has brought their rivalry into a new arena. It’s unclear how this will affect the reputations of those involved, but the situation highlights the growing intersection of technology, music, and cultural conflicts.

Do you think this is a technical glitch or an intentional act? And could Siri’s future upgrades prevent such controversies? Let us know in the comments below!
