Cronos: The New Dawn to Blend Resident Evil & Dead Space Combat with Unique Mechanics

Bloober Team is continuing its resurgence in the survival horror genre following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Their upcoming title, Cronos: The New Dawn, aims to deliver a harrowing experience inspired by classics like Resident Evil and Dead Space, with a fresh twist to its gameplay.

In an exclusive interview with MP1st, Game Director Wojciech Piejko shared insights into the game:

  • Combat Inspiration: The combat system will lean towards the tense and methodical style seen in Resident Evil and Dead Space. A special, undisclosed mechanic is being developed to make encounters unique and engaging.

  • Survival Elements: Players, referred to as Travelers, must rely on a combination of suits, weapons, and abilities while navigating a world teeming with grotesque monstrosities. Resource management and strategic planning will be critical for survival.

  • Story-Driven Exploration: True to Bloober Team's roots in atmospheric storytelling (Layers of Fear, Observer), Cronos promises a strong narrative focus alongside its survival gameplay.

The reveal trailer highlights a haunting, desolate world that combines elements of horror and sci-fi, drawing visual and thematic comparisons to Prey and Scorn. Players can expect to explore eerie ruins of a bygone civilization, with the narrative unfolding through environmental storytelling and player-driven exploration.

Cronos: The New Dawn is set to launch in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
