Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Modding Scene on PC Hints at Playable Turks Reno and Rude
The PC release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has opened the floodgates to a wave of impressive community-led modding projects, the latest of which hints at the possible addition of two unexpected playable characters—Reno and Rude of the Turks. A recently uploaded video by modder D3DNieR on YouTube showcases both characters in action, highlighting their full boss battle movesets functioning under player control.
Though still in a work-in-progress state—evident by missing voice lines and ATB-independent special abilities—this early implementation is surprisingly stable and functional, especially considering the complexity of integrating non-playable bosses into the game's active combat system. Both Reno and Rude appear to move fluidly in battle, giving fans a glimpse into what a fully polished version might eventually deliver.
Modders have been pushing the boundaries of the PC version since its release earlier this year, expanding functionality far beyond what was initially available in the PlayStation 5 edition. These enhancements include the removal of the standard three-member party cap, enabling full-team combat scenarios and allowing characters like Zack Fair and Sephiroth to remain playable throughout the game rather than being restricted to story-specific sequences. Notably, community efforts have even added Cid and Vincent to the party roster—though their lack of animations and move sets currently causes instability and game crashes when used in frontline roles.
While there is no official confirmation from Square Enix about expanding the playable roster or integrating additional content into the PC version, this continued outpouring of community innovation demonstrates both the flexibility of the RE Engine and the creative ambitions of a dedicated modding community.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available globally on PlayStation 5 and PC. With the community actively reshaping the experience, players have more reasons than ever to revisit Midgar—or explore its many reimagined horizons.
