Former Gearbox, Bethesda and Epic Games Veterans Form Ruckus Games, Creating Co-Op Title

In 2021, seven seasoned developers from Gearbox, Bethesda, and Epic Games took a bold step by founding a new game studio named Ruckus Games. Since its inception, the studio has maintained a low profile, but today they have revealed sneak peeks of their upcoming debut title. Interested players are invited to participate in playtesting to aid the development team.

The project is led by Paul Sage, the CEO and Game Director, who previously served as the Creative Director for Borderlands 3 and The Elder Scrolls Online. Ruckus Games boasts a wealth of talent from industry giants like Gearbox, Riot Games, and Blizzard, equipping the studio with the expertise necessary to create a standout multiplayer game.

When presenting their prototype to investors, Ruckus Games quickly attracted attention, securing $19 million in funding to turn their multiplayer vision into reality. Remarkably, investors were convinced after just 20 minutes of gameplay during a demo, a significant achievement for a brand-new studio with a prototype developed within a mere 12 months.

The title of Ruckus' project has not yet been disclosed, but it promises to be a four-player co-op experience. Set in a "nostalgic era amid the American heartland," players will assume the roles of ordinary citizens compelled to become heroes as their town comes under attack. The game will feature a diverse roster of playable characters and an array of quirky and entertaining weapon combinations, such as a toaster that fires saw blades or a power washer transformed into a flamethrower.

As players explore and unlock new items, they can wreak havoc, rescue NPCs, and return to their hometown, where they can customize, build, and upgrade their living space. This upgrade system will enhance weapons and abilities, further engaging players in the gameplay.

"We want games where people have fun from the get-go. Games that are physical, joyous, and just a damn good time to be shared with others. We can't wait to show you what we have in store," said Paul Sage.

For those interested in exploring what Ruckus Games has to offer, sign-ups for playtesting are available on their official website.
