Horizon & Death Stranding’s Decima Engine May Power Future PlayStation Studios Projects

Guerrilla Games’ Decima Engine, the technology behind Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and the Death Stranding series, may soon be adopted by additional PlayStation Studios developers. According to findings highlighted by Twisted Voxel, Guerrilla’s Senior Producer Astrid Huntjens notes that the studio has grown its engine support capabilities to collaborate with other Sony teams interested in Decima.

The potential scope of these partnerships is underscored by a LinkedIn listing from former Bend Studio Senior Game Designer Matthew Seymour, indicating that the team’s unannounced project is using Decima. Bend, known for Days Gone, has been quietly working on a new IP. While details remain slim, the mention of Decima among the tools utilized strongly suggests the engine’s presence in that project.

Decima’s capabilities are poised to shine again in Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, currently in development. The first glimpses of the sequel’s visuals—crafted on the latest Decima iteration—have sparked praise for their photorealism and detail. Meanwhile, fans can also see the engine at work in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which arrived on PlayStation 5 and PC with refined visuals and performance. As PlayStation Studios continue to evaluate tech solutions, Decima appears well-positioned to provide the foundation for future AAA experiences.
