Mafia: The Old Country Is a Linear, Narrative-Driven Game Powered by Unreal Engine 5

During The Game Awards 2024, Hangar 13 and 2K officially unveiled Mafia: The Old Country with a stunning cinematic trailer. The game marks a major departure from its predecessors by embracing a linear, narrative-driven structure rather than the open-world format fans have come to expect.

A Gritty Tale Rooted in Organized Crime

Set in the fictional Sicilian town of San Celeste, Mafia: The Old Country delves deep into the brutal origins of organized crime. Players will step into the shoes of Enzo, a young man who rises from a childhood of forced labor in Sicily's harsh sulfur mines to become a pivotal member of Don Torrisi's crime family. Enzo’s journey is a stark exploration of loyalty, power, and the sacrifices demanded by family ties.

Nick Baynes, President of Hangar 13, shared his vision for the game:

"Mafia: The Old Country is a love letter to old-style, gritty Mafia stories. Everyone at Hangar 13 is committed to creating the most authentic and intense story of the franchise, and we can’t wait for players to experience the journey with Enzo."

  • Linear Narrative Structure: A tightly woven story that focuses on Enzo's rise within the crime family, moving away from the sprawling open worlds of past Mafia titles.

  • Immersive Cinematic Experience: Leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5, the game promises jaw-dropping visuals and a focus on storytelling.

  • Authentic Combat Mechanics: High-stakes gunplay, stealth, and melee combat rooted in the grounded realism of early 20th-century crime life.

  • Dynamic Travel Options: Navigate cobblestone streets on horseback or speed along dirt roads in period-accurate, turn-of-the-century cars.

Mafia: The Old Country is slated for release in Summer 2025 and will be available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
