Monster Hunter Wilds New Mods Address Core Challenge and Balance Issues
A couple of newly released mods for Monster Hunter Wilds are taking aim at one of the game’s most prominent challenges: its overall low difficulty. Developed by dedicated community modders and available on Nexus Mods, these modifications offer players the option to enhance the game’s challenge and rebalance key elements for a more engaging experience.
The first mod, known as the Hard(er) Mode mod, comes in multiple variants that allow users to increase either the damage output, monster HP, or both simultaneously. This tweak not only provides a steeper challenge for seasoned hunters but also maintains online play compatibility—although caution is advised when joining random sessions with the vanilla difficulty. Based on community testing, a 1.6x multiplier for both HP and attack values seems to strike a balanced ratio when paired with tier 7 Artian weapons and late High Rank gear, offering a notable increase in challenge without compromising gameplay flow.
The second mod, the Reasonable Palico Nerfs mod, targets another aspect of the gameplay by adjusting the healing dynamics of Palicos. Available in two variants, the first variant reduces both the efficacy and frequency of healing to 40% and one-third respectively, while the second, more aggressive variant further nerfs healing capabilities and significantly limits tool usage frequency. These changes aim to compel players to rely more on their own combat skills and strategic resource management rather than overrelying on support from their Palicos.
And addressing performance issues, the GPU and CPU Performance FPS Optimizer mod by velasquez3589 is making waves by significantly optimizing CPU usage. According to tests, the mod delivers an impressive performance gain of approximately 23.38% in CPU efficiency, which translates to smoother gameplay and a reduction in crashes and freezes. This mod recalibrates CPU usage metrics, ensuring that resource consumption is minimized and performance is maximized across the board.
Graphics Presets for Customizable Visuals
In addition to gameplay and performance tweaks, the modding community has also introduced four custom graphics presets tailored to meet diverse hardware and performance needs:
Quality: Focused on delivering the best possible graphics for PCs with high-end hardware.
Balanced: Offers a mix of visual fidelity and performance, recommended for most users.
Performance: Prioritizes smooth gameplay over visual quality, ideal for systems with modest hardware.
6GB VRAM (In Testing): Specially designed for users with only 6GB of VRAM, this preset is still in testing but aims to maximize performance on lower-end systems.
These presets allow players to fine-tune their experience, ensuring optimal performance whether they prioritize visuals or smooth, uninterrupted gameplay.
While these mods help recalibrate the game’s difficulty curve, Monster Hunter Wilds continues to face notable performance challenges on PC. Recent technical analysis suggests that these issues may be tied to the way data streaming is handled by the GPU—a topic that still awaits a robust resolution from the developers.
