Nintendo Switch 2 Announcements: Upgraded Zelda Games, Metroid Prime 4 Modes, Exclusive FromSoftware Game, and more

Nintendo's latest Direct presentation was a monumental event, revealing extensive details and announcements surrounding the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Alongside hardware specifications, several key first-party games and numerous major third-party titles were unveiled, showcasing an exciting future for Nintendo fans.

Upgraded Versions for Zelda: BOTW and TOTK

Nintendo announced enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Editions" for two iconic Zelda titles: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. These versions will include upgraded visuals, improved frame rates, and new HDR support, elevating their acclaimed art styles.

Owners of either game on the original Switch will have the option to purchase upgrade packs to obtain these enhancements without buying the full game again. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch Online app, renamed the Nintendo Switch app, will introduce "Zelda Notes"—offering helpful tips and allowing easy sharing of player creations.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Display Modes

Nintendo also provided fresh details about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, emphasizing its performance on the new hardware. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will offer two graphical modes:

  • Quality Mode: 4K/60 FPS with HDR (docked), 1080p/60 FPS with HDR (handheld)

  • Performance Mode: 1080p/120 FPS with HDR (docked), 720p/120 FPS with HDR (handheld)

This entry will also support the Joy-Con 2’s new mouse functionality for precise aiming and interaction. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, featuring Samus Aran's new psychic abilities, is slated for a yet-to-be-confirmed 2025 release.

FromSoftware's "The Duskbloods" Exclusive

A surprise announcement came from FromSoftware, creators of Elden Ring and Dark Souls, unveiling a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive title: The Duskbloods. Set in a gothic, vampire-themed world reminiscent of Bloodborne, this multiplayer-focused title promises an atmospheric and intense gameplay experience. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki will detail more about the game during a "Creator’s Voice" series debuting April 4, 2025.
