Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Launches June 5th with Enhanced Specs, Priced at $449.99 / €469.99; 4K Docked and HDR Support Confirmed
Nintendo has officially confirmed the global launch date and detailed specifications of its next-generation gaming console, the Nintendo Switch 2. As announced during Nintendo Direct presentation, the much-anticipated successor to the original Switch will debut worldwide on June 5th, priced at $449.99 in the US and €469.99 in Europe, slightly above the initial predictions.
Enhanced Display and Performance
The new console features substantial hardware improvements designed to elevate the gaming experience significantly. At the forefront is a larger 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen with a sharp 1080p resolution, a notable step-up from the original's 720p display. The handheld screen now supports up to 120 FPS and incorporates HDR (High Dynamic Range) capabilities, promising smoother, brighter, and more vivid visuals for handheld gamers.
Docked gameplay receives a significant upgrade as well. The included Nintendo Switch 2 dock supports 4K resolution output, a highly anticipated feature that gamers have been requesting since the original Switch. The dock also supports HDR content and includes an internal fan to keep the console efficiently cooled when playing intensive games in docked mode.
Upgraded Storage and Connectivity
Addressing the previous generation's storage limitations, Nintendo has dramatically increased internal storage from 32 GB to a far more practical 256 GB. Additionally, the console now features two USB-C ports—one positioned at the top and another at the bottom—offering greater flexibility. These ports facilitate charging during tabletop play and allow seamless connectivity with peripherals such as the newly introduced Nintendo Switch 2 Camera.
New Joy-Con 2 and Pro Controller 2 Enhancements
The redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers now connect magnetically to the Switch 2 and come with new functionalities, including built-in mouse support for precise control, enhancing gameplay across different genres. They also introduce a new dedicated C-button specifically for Nintendo's GameChat feature, allowing intuitive access to in-game voice and video chat. Notably, the GameChat system leverages the built-in microphone and the optional camera accessory, available free of charge to all Switch 2 owners until March 31, 2026.
The updated Pro Controller 2 has also seen significant improvements. It includes a headphone jack, responding to longstanding player requests, and features two programmable rear buttons for additional customization, catering especially to the demands of competitive players.
Audio Advancements
Audio improvements further enhance immersion, featuring vastly upgraded built-in speakers for clearer and richer sound. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch 2 supports 3D audio, enabling a more immersive and spatially accurate audio experience during gameplay.
