Nintendo Confirms Backward Compatibility for Switch 2

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will support backward compatibility with existing Switch games. President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed this during Nintendo’s latest Corporate Management Policy Briefing, ending months of speculation. This means players can enjoy their current Switch library on the new device, along with a range of new titles.

Furukawa highlighted the success of the original Switch’s hybrid model, blending handheld and home console features, and noted that the Switch 2 will follow this successful path. Nintendo plans to announce further details about the Switch 2, including backward compatibility specifics, by March 2025.

The Switch’s lasting appeal is attributed to Nintendo’s integration of both handheld and home gaming experiences, fostering a strong global consumer base. This focus on a unified, portable platform has redefined Nintendo’s approach, setting up the Switch 2 as a promising evolution of the brand.
