PS Plus Gets God of War Ragnarök, Like a Dragon Gaiden, Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand, and More in January
Sony has officially revealed the PlayStation Plus January 2025 lineup for both Premium and Extra subscribers. It’s shaping up to be an impressive selection of games that covers large-scale blockbusters, niche gems, and even some classic titles for those who subscribe to the Premium tier.
God of War Ragnarök
Headlining this month’s additions is God of War Ragnarök, the critically acclaimed sequel to 2018’s God of War reboot. Developed by Sony Santa Monica, Ragnarök continues the emotional tale of Kratos and his son Atreus, building on the previous game’s signature blend of cinematic storytelling and satisfying combat. The sequel maintains the powerful narrative foundation but expands it further, adding new mythological realms, fresh abilities, and deeper enemy encounters. Its arrival on PS Plus is a major highlight for subscribers who haven’t played it yet, or for those itching to revisit its world.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
Next on the list is Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio—the team behind the Yakuza franchise. Released in November 2023, this spin-off puts the player in the shoes of legendary series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, now working incognito as a secret agent. Set roughly alongside the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Gaiden offers a bridge between that game and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, reintroducing Kiryu as he navigates new enemies and old grudges.
Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand
The third major addition is Deck13’s action role-playing game, Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand. Although the game had a rocky launch, the developers have continued refining it with updates, aiming to address its initial shortcomings. Atlas Fallen transports players to a desert-covered land where they wield shapeshifting weapons to combat colossal creatures. The “Reign of Sand” subtitle hints at both the treacherous environment and the shifting nature of the gameplay. If you passed over the game at release, this PS Plus offer could be your chance to see how it has evolved.
Other Titles
Those not limited to AAA blockbusters will find plenty more on offer. Sony’s new update brings additional titles such as:
SD Gundam Battle Alliance: A mecha-centric action RPG that merges multiple Gundam universes.
Sayonara Wild Hearts: A vibrant, music-driven experience blending arcade action with a dreamy visual style.
ANNO: Mutationem: A stylish blend of 2D and 3D cyberpunk aesthetics in an action-adventure setting.
Orcs Must Die! 3: The tower defense/action hybrid that continues the series’ over-the-top orc-slaying fun.
Citizen Sleeper: A narrative-driven RPG exploring themes of corporate surveillance, transhumanism, and self-discovery.
Poker Club: A realistic simulation title that lets you join large-scale tournaments or enjoy casual card sessions with friends online.
For the Premium tier, Sony is expanding its library of classic titles. This time, two beloved older games join the collection:
MediEvil II: The sequel to the original hack-and-slash platformer, featuring Sir Daniel Fortesque’s undead adventures in a supernatural Victorian-era London.
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings: A mid-2000s action-adventure game inspired by the iconic film series, letting players explore ancient tombs and chase hidden relics as the legendary Dr. Jones.
The new PS Plus lineup becomes available on January 21, and subscribers can keep an eye on Sony’s official announcements for any additional updates or surprise inclusions. Of the entire list, God of War Ragnarök easily draws the most attention, given the game’s critical praise and narrative scope. However, titles like Like a Dragon Gaiden and Atlas Fallen provide compelling alternatives for players seeking something a bit different from the conventional blockbuster.
For PS Plus Premium members, the classic offerings can be a real draw, especially for those wanting a dose of nostalgic gameplay. Whether you’re into mythological action, Yakuza-styled street brawling, or retro platforming, this January lineup seems to have something for just about every type of gamer.
