Remedy Reveals Control 2 as Action RPG; Alan Wake 2 Hits 1.8M Sales Milestone

During today's Capital Markets Day, Remedy Entertainment unveiled key updates for Control 2 and Alan Wake 2. While Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.8 million units, it hasn't yet recouped its production and marketing costs. Meanwhile, Control 2 is aiming higher with a €50 million budget, evolving into an action RPG to capture a broader audience.

Key Updates:

Alan Wake 2:

  • Sold 1.8 million units since release.

  • Sales are on track but haven’t yet covered the total costs.

  • Continues to benefit from positive reviews and audience interest.

Control 2:

  • Transitioning from action-adventure to action RPG, a more marketable genre.

  • Requires 3-4 million units sold to recover its €50 million budget.

  • Original Control sold 4.5 million units, with 19 million players accessing it via Game Pass, PS Plus, and other platforms.

Development Insights:

  • Remedy reacquired the Control IP from 505 Games for €17 million earlier this year.

  • Partnering with Annapurna Interactive for co-financing and live-action adaptations for Control and Alan Wake.

Other Projects:

  • FBC Firebreak, a co-op multiplayer spin-off, has a €30 million budget and needs to sell 3 million units to break even.

  • Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes are in full production, in collaboration with Rockstar Games.
