Samsung Launches the Blazing-Fast 9100 PRO PCI-E 5.0 SSD Series with Up to 8 TB Capacity and 14,800 MB/s Speeds
Samsung Electronics has officially introduced its latest high-performance SSD, the 9100 PRO series, featuring advanced PCI-E 5.0 technology. This new SSD lineup significantly boosts storage performance, offering unprecedented speeds and high-capacity storage options tailored to gamers, content creators, and demanding professional applications. The new Samsung 9100 PRO SSD series comes in capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB, and an impressive 8 TB, although the highest-capacity model will launch later in the second half of 2025. The series notably includes both heatsink-equipped and non-heatsink versions, ensuring compatibility across a wide range of devices and cooling configurations.
Leveraging the cutting-edge PCI-E 5.0 interface, the Samsung 9100 PRO achieves remarkable sequential read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 13,400 MB/s. Compared to Samsung's previous generation 990 PRO PCI-E 4.0 SSD, which delivered sequential speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s read and 6,900 MB/s write, the 9100 PRO nearly doubles performance, setting new benchmarks in the SSD market.
At the core of this performance leap is Samsung’s new 8th-generation V-NAND TLC (V8), employing 1-terabit triple-level cell (TLC) technology, achieving I/O speeds up to 2.4 Gbps—a 20% improvement over the previous generation. Samsung has also introduced a new 5nm proprietary controller, optimizing power efficiency, delivering up to 49% greater efficiency compared to the prior generation.
Samsung highlighted the innovation at NVIDIA's recent GTC 2025 conference, emphasizing the SSD’s ability to handle heavy AI-driven workloads, gaming, and intensive content creation with industry-leading random read/write speeds of 2,200K and 2,600K IOPS, respectively—a substantial upgrade from the 990 PRO's 1,400K/1,550K IOPS.
Jim Kiczek, VP of Memory Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, commented on the launch:
"From AI-driven creators shaping the future to gamers pushing the limits, we saw a clear need for innovation to support users who need more forward-thinking memory technology as they push the bounds of what’s possible in their work. The 9100 PRO SSD establishes a new era of performance to help them achieve exactly that. With more storage, even better speeds, improved power efficiency, and seamless reliability, the lineup empowers users to continue innovating without storage limitations."
The Samsung 9100 PRO is available immediately on Samsung's official website, priced as follows:
1 TB – $199
2 TB – $299
4 TB – $549
Heatsink-equipped versions carry an additional cost of $20. The 8 TB variant will be available in the second half of 2025.
