The Blood of Dawnwalker Isn’t in Danger Despite NetEase Involvement, Confirms Developer

Fans of the promising action role-playing game The Blood of Dawnwalker can breathe a sigh of relief. Following reports that NetEase has been withdrawing from several investments in China, concerns emerged over the future of the game, which had previously received an investment from NetEase in November 2022. However, Co-Owner and Chief Publishing Officer Tomasz Tinc has clarified that the game is not in jeopardy. In a recent LinkedIn post, Tinc explained that NetEase is only a minority investor and that The Blood of Dawnwalker is fully funded, with Bandai Namco now serving as the game’s global publisher.

Tinc expressed gratitude for the support received from fans amid the swirling rumors, emphasizing that development is progressing steadily without any financial difficulties. He further noted, "The production of our game is fully funded, and we work alongside our partners and friends from Bandai Namco to bring the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga to life." With the majority of Rebel Wolves’ ownership held by studio co-owners such as Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and NetEase only a minority shareholder, the studio is well-positioned to continue its creative journey.

Founded by former developers of The Witcher 3, Polish studio Rebel Wolves unveiled The Blood of Dawnwalker in mid-January. The game blends narrative depth with significant player agency, allowing players to step into the role of Coen—a vampire from 14th century Carpathia. In a twist on traditional vampire lore, Coen possesses the ability to walk in the sun. Set against the backdrop of the Black Death and a homeland invaded by a powerful vampire coven, players must complete their mission to save Coen’s family within a strict time limit of thirty days and thirty nights. The gameplay promises a unique shift at nighttime, highlighting Coen’s supernatural abilities in a narrative sandbox that emphasizes player choice.

While Rebel Wolves has cautioned that The Blood of Dawnwalker will not match the vast scope of titles like The Witcher 3, the studio is committed to delivering an engaging experience that resonates with fans of narrative-driven RPGs. Although no official release date has been announced, more details about the game are expected to be revealed later this year.
