The Sinking City Remastered Announced for PC and Current-Gen Consoles, With Sequel Details Teased

Frogwares has officially announced The Sinking City Remastered, a fully upgraded version of the 2019 Lovecraftian detective-action game, just days before the conclusion of the Kickstarter campaign for its sequel. The remaster, built on Unreal Engine 5, will be available for free to all current owners of the original game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The upcoming remaster promises a significant visual overhaul. Players can expect 4K textures, improved lighting systems, enhanced detail and reflections, and support for all major upscaling technologies including NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and TSR. These enhancements aim to provide a richer, more immersive exploration of the mysterious, rain-drenched city of Oakmont, where supernatural horrors and psychological mystery intertwine.

In addition to the graphical upgrades, Frogwares is implementing quality-of-life improvements that players have been requesting since the game's launch. While exact features haven’t been detailed, a new Photo Mode has been confirmed, enabling players to capture the eerie beauty of Oakmont like never before.

While the remaster does not yet have a confirmed release date, the studio’s announcement comes at a pivotal moment. Frogwares is also working on the sequel to The Sinking City, which is currently being funded via Kickstarter. In a unique twist, backers of the campaign may have the opportunity to be included in the sequel, though specific details on how this will work are still under wraps.

The original The Sinking City was praised for its narrative depth and investigative gameplay, though many critics and players noted the combat felt underwhelming. With the Remastered version, Frogwares may be attempting to rebalance that dynamic and deliver a more polished and complete experience for both returning and new players.

Are you excited to return to Oakmont with next-gen visuals and new features? What would you like to see improved most in the remaster? Let us know in the comments!
