The Witcher IV Won’t Launch Until at Least 2027, CD Projekt RED Confirms

Fans eager for the highly anticipated The Witcher IV will need to exercise patience, as developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the game will not launch until at least 2027. This announcement came during CD Projekt RED's fiscal year 2024 earnings conference, following the stunning reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2024.

According to the studio's official statement:

"Regarding the expected release date for The Witcher IV, we are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet. All we could share for now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the timeframe of the first target for the incentive program, which ends on 31 December 2026."

This places The Witcher IV alongside another highly awaited fantasy RPG, The Elder Scrolls VI, which may also see its release window around late 2027, considering Bethesda's typical four-year development cycles following their previous title, Starfield.

In the wake of the game's exciting announcement trailer, CD Projekt RED had already revealed several key details about The Witcher IV:

  • Cirilla Fiona Riannon (Ciri) will be the protagonist, stepping into the spotlight as a new Witcher. Actress Ciara Berkeley replaces Jo Wyatt in the role, allowing the developers to explore greater player agency since Ciri is at the beginning of her Witcher journey, unlike Geralt's extensive past.

  • Players can expect compelling and meaningful romances tailored specifically for Ciri throughout the storyline.

  • The fan-favorite card game, Gwent, will return.

  • The game will match The Witcher III: Wild Hunt in terms of size and scope, but the developers are prioritizing quality and depth over sheer quantity.

CD Projekt RED also discussed its financial performance for 2024, describing it as solid despite a lack of major releases. The studio generated nearly $260 million in revenue, marking the third-highest net profit in company history. Additionally, CD Projekt RED announced plans to acquire complete ownership of Boston-based developer The Molasses Flood, the team behind Project Sirius, a Witcher spin-off. After full acquisition, The Molasses Flood will be integrated fully into CD Projekt RED.
