AMD Ryzen Z2 Go Performs 10% Slower Than Z1 Extreme: Lenovo Legion Go S & ASUS ROG Ally X Comparison Reveals Performance Gap

A new set of comparisons by Fps Vn shows that Lenovo’s upcoming Legion Go S handheld, powered by the Ryzen Z2 Go chip, is around 10% behind the ROG Ally X handheld (which uses the Ryzen Z1 Extreme) when gaming in several power modes. YouTuber Fps Vn posted a direct head-to-head test across three different titles, suggesting the budget-oriented Legion Go S remains competitive despite lower specs and a reduced core count.

Ryzen Z2 Go vs. Ryzen Z1 Extreme

As part of the new Ryzen Z2 series, the Z2 Go features a 4-core/8-thread architecture (2x Zen 4 + 2x Zen 4c) with a 4.3 GHz max boost. Meanwhile, the ROG Ally X’s Z1 Extreme sports a more robust 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 design, capable of hitting 5.1 GHz. Nevertheless, in the benchmarks shown:

  • Black Myth: Wukong at 15W: 36 FPS (Legion Go S) vs. 40 FPS (Ally X); at 20W: 30 FPS vs. 32 FPS; at 30W: 60 FPS vs. 64 FPS

  • Cyberpunk 2077 at 15W: 50 vs. 54 FPS; 20W: 45 vs. 47 FPS; 30W: 61 vs. 66 FPS

  • Ghost of Tsushima at 15W: 62 vs. 66 FPS; 20W: 48 vs. 52 FPS; 30W: 62 vs. 66 FPS

Overall, the Legion Go S trailed by roughly 9–10% in performance. Given that Lenovo aims for a more accessible price point (around $599 with Windows or $499 if running SteamOS), the margin looks impressive relative to the ROG Ally X’s $799 launch tag. The Ryzen Z2 Go sits firmly above the Steam Deck’s custom AMD APU but naturally can’t match higher-end Zen 5–based handhelds like ONE XFly F1 Pro.

Is a 10% performance drop worth the savings if you’re eyeing a budget Windows handheld? Which would you pick between the Legion Go S and ROG Ally X? Let us know below!
